Active witnesses? Please help?
by Ahava inhi,i'm lost and a little sad.
i actually like the jw faith.
some might call this faith cold, strict, dogmatic but they're just trying to follow rules and give back to god.

Have reasonably good info that the dad was raised a JW but never baptised. He used to take the kids to meetings. Don't know the details of the marriage break-up but I believe the ex-wife and her parents were NOT JW's.

Pre 2000 magazines now on JW Org- have there been alterations to the originals?
by joey jojo injust wanted to ask if anyone has found any glaring changes to the pre- 2000 wt or awake articles that have been put online compared to the original issues?.
cheers.

Thanks for the replies. :)
I did a little bit of digging myself although I don't own any original bound volumes anymore.
I started with this website and looked for anything relating to 'generation' that has been posted and commented on using pre 2000 WT as a reference.
It looked to me like the originals had not been altered (yet) regarding this particular topic. But it was a small sample size as I only referenced a handful of articles on the topic.
Like the Reasoning book, which is still available on JW org, the pre 2000 WT's that I researched, notably, the 1984 WT - the generation that will not pass away', still maintain that 'the generation' are the group of people alive in 1914 that will not pass away before Armageddon.
So, officially, as of this date, the org is promoting 2 different doctrines on the same subject. I don't really think any reasonable person would call that being 'faithful', or 'discreet'.

Wealth, Poverty, and Morality
by SecondRateMind ini am interested in the approach this forum takes to money.
apart from sex, (which i am quite relaxed about) it seems to me that wealth is the surest divider between those who are moral, and those who are not.. it seems jesus thought so, also.
luke 16:19-31 kjv describes well enough his dusty attitude to the rich who do not succour the poor.. and this world has many poor: so many, it might seem that we can do nothing about it, and twist his words; 'the poor ye shall have always with you, but me, ye shall not have always.

I'm at work so I haven't been able to read every reply. I'm sure that what I believe has probably already been said but here goes anyway.
Wealth is relative.
What is ' too much wealth'?
I agree with many that have said that giving money to ' poor ' people will solve nothing because if it did work there should be no poverty in any first world country with a social security network.
Wealth is a mindset.
The reason many are poorer than they should be is because they buy themselves luxuries first and try to save or invest second. Many spend way too much on takeaway meals, smoking, drinking, drugs, gambling, clothes - you name it. Try telling a rich guy that became rich by working 100 hours a week for 20 yrs and didn't waste his money on instant gratification that he should give most of his wealth away to a family that eats at mcdonalds most nights because mum is too lazy to cook.
Your post is a good one that proposes a problem that seems to have a very simple solution, but in reality, is a complex issue.
I should add that most first world countries already donate hundreds of millions of dollars to less fortunate countries every year.
I could go on but I have to keep working now :).

JW's are slaves- but not in a good way
by joey jojo ini was reading about the american slave trade again recently.
as anyone who has read anything about the subject knows, it makes for very uncomfortable reading.
every time i read the history, i'm left with a sense of outrage and seething anger at the pure inhumanity and injustice of what life must have been like for those people.

What makes it even worse, is that JWs have been conditioned to actually think it is a GOOD thing to be a "slave" to the "truth"!
Exactly the point I was trying to make.
4. 'Teach servants to take interest in their master's enterprise.'
I find this comment pretty disturbing. It has connotations of a lowly slave, whose only pleasure in life is making his master happy. It is a fitting comparison to the way the average Dub is treated. Jw's are pretty much conditioned to accept that making their 'masters' happy (witnessing, meetings) is the ONLY way they can achieve true happiness.

I came across an unsettling quote from a publication written in 1850 which described how slave owners can produce and maintain the 'ideal slave'.
- Maintain strict discipline and unconditional submission.
- Create a sense of personal inferiority, so that slaves "know their place."
- Instill fear.
- Teach servants to take interest in their master's enterprise.
- Deprive access to education and recreation, to ensure that slaves remain uneducated, helpless, and dependent.
Sound familiar?

What Is The Most Ridiculous Thing You Have Heard From A Witness?
by minimus ini remember an elder questioning a woman who had admitted to giving and receiving oral sex from her unbelieving mate.
he asked her the most intimate questions which clearly flustered her.
interestingly, she “confessed “ to the elders because her conscience bothered her.

A ministerial servant giving his first talk told us from the platform that children need to be supervised at all times.
He then went on to tell us a story he had heard about a couple of 2 yr olds that were left in a car, had sexual intercourse with each other while the adults went into a store.

Last days as defined by the 'still current' Reasoning book
by joey jojo inreasoning book pg.234 onwards ( from the jw org website):.
last days.
definition: the bible uses the expression “last days” to refer to the concluding time period leading up to a divinely appointed execution that marks the end of a system of things.

@Sir82, to be honest, I have no idea if they consider the Reasoning book current.
Its actually been a while since I visited the JW org website and what I find intriguing is the sheer amount of the WT library that have no active links, meaning of course, that unless you have a physical hard copy of the book, there is no way of reading the information. (Apart from sites like this).
For an organisation that has printed books virtually non-stop since the late 1800's, you would think that the JW.org library would be far more extensive, but they are only prepared to make a fraction of these books available for research.

Last Days
Definition: The Bible uses the expression “last days” to refer to the concluding time period leading up to a divinely appointed execution that marks the end of a system of things. The Jewish system with its worship built around the temple in Jerusalem experienced its last days from 33 to 70 C.E. What occurred then was pictorial of what would be experienced in a greatly intensified way and on a global scale at a time when all nations would be facing the execution of judgment decreed by God. The present wicked system of things, which extends worldwide, entered its last days in 1914, and some of the generation alive then will also be on hand to witness its complete end in the “great tribulation.”
And then this...
If Someone Says—
‘How do you know that some future generation won’t fit the prophecy even better than this one?’
‘Matching world events to this prophecy is like matching a fingerprint to its owner. There will not be someone else with the identical print. Likewise, the pattern of events that began in 1914 will not be repeated in some future generation.’
Hmmmm....
